Hello, my name is Marta. I come from Poland. I've been here, in the USA for over 3 years. It's my second year at CSI. Even though I attend Advanced Class, my English isn't so good... but I'm still learning.
ReplyDeleteIn my free time I really like reading books, watching good movies and traveling. I've already visited many interesting places in the USA but I still have many places on my "to see" list.
This semester instead of reading a book in English I will watch 5 movies in English. I will pick one of them (the one I will like the most) and I will create a power point presentation about it...
Aloha friend!! It's me Samaporn Dit-ta-in. I'm a Thai citizen. I've been living in America for 4 years with my cousin's family in Oak Park. My reason of being here is practice to be good and strong in any conditions. when I was in Thailand my English was not o.k. It was hard to let the foreigners understand the thing I wanted to speak. I could not even tell the directions to the tourists who needed some help from me. I remembered the first month in the US.,I was not confident at all to go out side without my cousin. To order something at Mcdonald made me freak out pretty much. Currently, I can not return to be old Samaporn whom I knew all my whole life. I'm changed. I don't have only Thai friends any more. My social life is better than I expected. I can communicate in English, not really excellent, but people understand well my words. My next challenge goal is to watch the movie in English sounds by do not see the subtitle then completely get every single word they talk. hahaha It is not easy, but not too far.
ReplyDeleteMarta- I'm really happy you're still in my class. You're a fun student! I think watching movies this semester will be good for you. Let me know if you'd like to borrow any of mine.
ReplyDeleteSamaporn- I definitely think your English is very understandable. You give 110% to learning in my class and I am very appreciative of that. I hope that I can help you learn even more this semester. If you want suggestions for movies, just let me know :)
Hi,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Nuchida, I'm from Thailand. This is my third year with CSI. I hope to improve my grammar for the rest of the year. I'd to be able to translate some of the interesting books from my language into English properly. So we can exchange or share ideas just for fun. Nice to meet you.
Nuchida- People who work as translators can make a lot of money. However, it can be a difficult job because you have to know two languages very well. I think it would be awesome to hear some stories from Thailand translated to English. Perhaps this is a possible Midterm or Final project...translate your favorite short story from your language to English! What do you think about that idea?
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Beata Kozerska. I'm from Poland. I have been married a 27 years. We have a 27 years old son, and a 23 years old son. We are happy parents. We have a 3 years old grandson too. He's very cute. I love my family very much, and I miss for them. They are living in Poland, and I not seen them two years. But I hope that this summer, finally we meet together.
If it comes to my English , it's not good. In the past I didn't study English. I didn'n use this language until I came to US. Now I started to study. I'm attending to school regulary. I'm studying new vocabulary. I'm also trying to read the magazines, when I'm driving by car I'm listening to the radio in English , and I see that I understand more than earlier. But now I study more slowly. My mind doesn't work as good as before. Sometimes I can't keep my mind on my lesson. Studying English is not easy. It's very dificult language to learn for me. But I think that I can manage.
My goal for this class is to read the English book. I think that is the good idea.
